Dear NorESM users,

Just get a hint to forward this survey to the NorESM user mail list.

For those who have interests to transform your existing diagnostic script (e.g., used for a published paper) into ESMValTool or develop new diagnostic under ESMValTool, please fill out the Google Form at the end, and join in future discussions! (The survey is still open, but please fill it as soon as possible).

Best regards,
Yanchun

Dear Nordic colleague,

Researchers often use ad-hoc computer scripts to analyze and evaluate their model simulation data. This often leads to redundant work, when other tools may already provide some (or all) of the functionality. Using such widely used tools will also help to make your data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable).

One such tool is ESMValTool, which is used for understanding and evaluating Earth System Models (ESM). The ESMValTool provides a collection of diagnostics for analyzing different ESMs. Its main focus is the CMIP output data which can be easily downloaded and analyzed using this tool. Additionally, the tool is designed to allow the easy addition of new analyzes and diagnostics by providing basic functionality to handle the ESM data.

In NeIC-NICEST2 project we have some funding for transforming existing diagnostics into ESMValTool for the Nordic regions. We are now looking for suggestions on which diagnostics would be important in the Nordics. These can be small code snippets or references to published papers. We are gathering information on diagnostics and the usage of the ESMValTool and, therefore, ask you to please fill out the following google form. As we are also interested in usage statistics in general, we ask you to fill out the questionnaire even if you are not able to share diagnostics.

Please fill out this form by 4.2.2022:
