14–16 January 2026 | Bergen, Oslo & Online

The NorESM community is pleased to announce the next NorESM User Workshop. This year’s workshop will combine introductory sessions on the NorESM workflow, hands-on model training, component-specific discussions, and NorESM-focused diagnostics.

We will use NorESM2.3 for this workshop, which is compatible with the CMIP6 model versions of NorESM2. A new NorESM3 version is currently under development for CMIP7. The workflow for NorESM2.3 will, however, also be relevant for NorESM3 users. The workshop will include some information on new capabilities and features already included in NorESM3.

Participants are welcome to join for one, two, or all three days. The workshop will be held in a hybrid format, with hubs in Bergen (UiB) and Oslo (UiO), and with online participation available. We strongly recommend in-person attendance, especially for the hands-on sessions.

Preliminary Program

Day 1 – Introduction and Workflow
Overview of NorESM, community resources, model structure, and setup. Hands-on sessions covering GitHub use, code handling, input data, case creation, and basic XML modifications.

Day 2 – Component-Specific Sessions
Sessions on the atmosphere (CAM), land (CLM–FATES), and ocean/biogeochemistry (BLOM + HAMOCC). Topics include stand-alone configurations, feedback control, common biases, and namelist options.

Day 3 – Diagnostics and Exercises
Introduction to NorESM diagnostic tools, including the diag_run and the Atmosphere Diagnostics Framework (ADF). Includes practical exercises and opportunities to discuss user projects with experts.
